How do you prepare for an initial chiropractic visit?
Intake Forms and Documents
Prior to an initial visit, we will ask you to complete our Chiropractic Intake form. You can do it online or in person before your appointment. This will not only help jog your memory, but will help you communicate with your chiropractor about all aspects of your health. In addition, if you have any documentation from previous assessments, imaging reports or rehabilitation plans feel free to bring them in with you!
What to Wear
During an initial visit, your chiropractor will assess your movement, so you should wear comfortable clothing that you can move in.
What can you expect in our office?
During your initial visit, you can expect to spend 30 minutes with your chiropractor. Your chiropractor will complete a comprehensive assessment, including a detailed health history, physical assessment and if warranted, a treatment or referral.
Your health history covers details related to any specific neuromusculoskeletal (nerve, muscle, or bone) concerns, as well as many other aspects of your life. It is important for us to achieve a holistic understanding of your health in order to address any contributing factors that may be playing a role in your health concerns.
Your physical exam will begin with observing your body at rest. Then we’ll look at any functional tests specific to you. This may include observing how you sit or walk or how an athlete performs sport specific tasks. If you have any pictures or videos related to your concern, bring them! This will give your chiropractor the most accurate picture of how you move.
Your chiropractor will also move your joints through their full range of motion. A neurological exam may be required to assess your reflexes; ability to sense pain, pressure, or vibration; motor control/strength; balance/proprioception, and many others depending on your concerns. From there, orthopedic (bone and muscle) tests will be performed to test the integrity of your joints and connective tissue structures. During this time, your chiropractor will be using his/her hands to assess the structures involved for any increased/decreased tension, asymmetries, swelling, etc.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Once all components of your health history and physical exam are complete, your chiropractor will use this information to formulate a diagnosis. If more information is required, you may be sent for diagnostic imaging, such as x-ray or ultrasound.
Once it is understood what is involved, your chiropractor will discuss a treatment plan that would be optimal for you to reach your health goals. Your chiropractor may also choose to refer or co-manage your case with other health care professionals at Lead in order to offer the best approach for you! Having the ability to communicate and collaborate with our team is an amazing benefit to your overall wellness plan.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us! We are happy to give you more information or set you up with the right practitioner for your specific needs.
