CST – What is it?

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of the body system, known as the craniosacral system.  The Craniosacral System consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.

What is the purpose of CST (Craniosacral Therapy)?

The goal of CST is to release restrictions in the Craniosacral System to improve the overall functioning of the Central Nervous System.

How can Craniosacral Therapy help me?

CST increases the ability of the autonomic nervous system to cope with increased demands or stress made on the body.  This enables an increase in physical, mental, and emotional health.

Are there any risks I should be aware of?

While it is fairly uncommon, it is possible to feel a measure of discomfort during and possibly after the treatment.  The reason for this is because as the body works to correct imbalances within the system, it is having to undo some well established patterns of dysfunction.  Usually though, you will experience feelings of calmness, both during, and after a Craniosacral Therapy treatment.

What should I expect at my first Craniosacral Therapy treatment?

The therapist will obtain a thorough health history.  Afterwards you will lie fully clothed, comfortably on the massage table in a quiet room.  The therapist will then begin the session by assessing your Craniosacral Rhythm, then treats the body utilizing various techniques.
