The Power of Positivity

Scene: waiting in line at the grocery store, the customer ahead of you pays and leaves with her cart, you step up to the clerk as he starts to scan the items from your cart

Clerk: Hi, how are you?

You: Good, and you?

Clerk: Good.

End Scene.

How many times in the past month has this been your script?  The auto-pilot script where you go through the motions of your day, not really thinking about the words that are coming out of your mouth because that is what they do….they just come out of your mouth.  Most likely you did not even make eye contact with that grocery store clerk or if you did, you did not ‘see’ them.

At times it feels like we are like zombies going through our days, one after the other, after the other.  When I found myself going through these auto-pilot moments, I started to wonder why.  What was (or maybe what was not) happening in my brain to make many things in my day feel blah or mediocre?

I decided to learn more – and WOW did I learn!  I learned that each day we think 60,000-70,000 thoughts and I also learned that of these thoughts 80-90% of them were the same as the thoughts that I had yesterday and last week and last month and last year.  When I learned this, it made me realize that it is no wonder that I was living on auto-pilot!!

Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny.

Gandhi said, “ Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny.” I believe this and everyday I am finding new ways to flip the script on those 50,000-plus thoughts that were the same as yesterday, because I know that simple shifts in the positivity of my thoughts have an exponential impact on me and those around me!
